The Diploma Program (DP) is a 2-year pre-university
program leading to an internationally recognized diploma
or certificates in specific subjects that can allow
a student to attain university admissions and credit.
It is a bilingual program that requires students to
have at least two working languages. The coursework
comprises six subject areas plus independent inquiry
(Extended Essay); Creativity, Action, Service (CAS);
and the nature of knowledge across cultures (Theory
of Knowledge—TOK). The subject areas are:
• Languages (two are required)
• Individuals & Societies (Social Sciences)
• Experimental Sciences
• Math
• The Arts
The Diploma Program at the American School of Quito
was instituted in 1991 and offers a wide range of
subjects and levels from among which students design
their individual diploma:
• Languages: 2 courses
(English and Spanish) from the following: English/Spanish
A1, English/Spanish A2, English/Spanish B or Spanish
ab initio.
• Individuals & Societies (Social Sciences):
1 or 2 courses from the following: History of the
Americas, Economics, Psychology, Business & Management.
• Experimental Sciences: 1 or 2 courses
from the following: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental
Systems and Societies.
• Math: 1 course from Mathematics
or Math Studies.
• The Arts: Students may take Visual
Art or select 2 courses from social or experimental
sciences.
The American School of Quito invites all students
