The Middle Years Program (MYP) is designed
to meet the educational needs of students between 11
and 16 years of age and aims to help them develop the
knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to participate
actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly
interrelated world. Since 2002, the American School
of Quito has offered the Middle Years Program to all
students in grades 7 through 10.
The MYP subject areas offered at the
American School are:
• Language A (English and Spanish)
• Humanities (World History)
• Physical Education
• Sciences (Life Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry)
• Arts (Music, Drama, and Visual Arts)
• Mathematics
• Technology
In addition to the subjects above,
the MYP is characterized by Areas of Interaction. These
are incorporated into all subjects so that students
become aware of connections between subject content
and the real world:
• Approaches to Learning
• Community and Service
• Human Ingenuity
• Environments
• Health and Social Education
The Personal Project in grade 10 is
a reflection of all the skills students have developed
through the MYP experience. |
