Music

The Music Program uses music as a formative tool, in order to develop aptitudes, habits, skills and talents in our students. Students become active participants in their learning, as they share their artistic expression with the community.

Our Music Department is comprised of teachers with diverse musical backgrounds and experiences. Students from Pre-Kinder-10th Grades receive Music Education two hours per week. In order to provide a quality program that includes both knowledge acquisition, as well as performance opportunities, the program is divided in two programs:

General Music Program (Pre-Kinder-Fourth Grade). Students develop musical skills in reading and writing music. Students sing, participate in Orff instrumental performances, and learn music appreciation and expression through music. By the end of the Fourth Grade, all students are expected to be able to read music and play Orff instruments, in order to apply to the Elective Program in Fifth Grade.

Elective Music Program (Fifth-Tenth Grades) This program offers student the opportunity to choose a specific musical instrument in different areas such as, Band, Percussion, Guitar, Choir and Orff assemble. Some of the areas require extracurricular classes in order that students practice instruments. In addition our program includes instrumental practice, musical theory and music history.

Music and performance is considered an important and enriching part of our students´ well-rounded education.
