During
the first few weeks of classes, the focus is on adaptation.
Gradually, established routines help the children develop
trust and create a sense of security in their new environment.
They learn to respect others´ turns, to share,
to listen, and to express themselves. Order and good
care in the handling of their own materials and of those
provided by the school is emphasized. As the children
acquire these good habits, they will develop a greater
level of independence and security.
The children work in large or small
groups or individually. While working in large groups,
they learn to listen to others, to express themselves
in complete sentences, and to speak out loud. The activities
in small groups give them the opportunity to develop
leadership ability.
In individual
activities they learn to play by themselves and to develop
specific skills according to their interest level.
Our teaching method follows the philosophy
of “Whole Language”. We believe that language
should have meaning for the child and he should be able
to look it as a whole, following the natural tendency,
and not as fragmented bits and pieces.
We are aware of children's´ individual
differences as well as their different levels of maturity;
therefore, our teaching methods are individualized to
provide each child with motivating experiences.
Within the schedule, two support programs
are offered through the Language Therapy Center and
the Individualized Instruction Center.
