The
National Secondary Section of the American School offers
an educational option within an innovative experimental
framework defined by the following characteristics:
Pedagogical and administrative autonomy.
Active methodology.
Use of the Ecuadorian Department
of Education, the International Baccalaureate and
the Middle Year Program´s curriculum models
as parameters of academic excellence and knowledge
acquisition.
Emphasis on diagnostic and process

based on national and international parameters:
The Ecuadorian Department of Education, International
Baccalaureate, Southern Association of Colleges
& Schools, PSAT, SAT, PLAN and TAP Tests.
Multimedia as a tool for teaching/learning.
Development of interdisciplinary
projects from 7th to 12th grades.
Development of critical thinking.
Development of global thought while
emphasizing personal and community autonomy.
Bilingual education: English/Spanish.
Attention to psychological, pedagogic,

Secondary Section programs
are supervised by the General Director and executed
by the Principal and Vice Principals.
The Secondary Section is divided into
two cycles:
Middle Years Program (MYP): Grades 7 to 10.
I.B. Program: Grades 11 and 12.
The Vice Principals supervise and coordinate
all academic activities in the two cycles. The Area
Heads supervise and coordinate the activities of the
teachers assigned to each area.
Each grade is divided into five or
six parallels depending on the number of students and
electives. Each teacher is in charge of a subject within
the curriculum. This teacher performs academic and disciplinary
follow-up on his/her students. The teacher then informs
the Homeroom Teacher about issues related to the academic
performance of his/her students.
